Blake Carpenter serves in the Kansas House of Representatives and currently serves as Speaker Pro Tempore. He was first appointed House Majority Whip in 2018, a position he held until January 2022. During that year, Blake resigned from both the Majority Whip role and the House itself to fulfill military orders. In his absence, a special election was conducted, and a temporary replacement was chosen to fill his seat. Blake returned in May 2022, was sworn back into the legislature, and resumed his legislative duties. In December 2022, he was elected Speaker Pro Tempore of the Kansas House of Representatives, a role in which he currently serves.
Blake has a strong decade long career in the aviation industry, serving as a contractor for major firms including Textron Aviation, Rockwell Collins, Dassault Systèmes, and Boeing Defense, Space, and Security. His contract work with Boeing concluded in December 2024.
Blake is a committed advocate for the armed forces and military families, balancing his duties as an elected member of the Kansas House of Representatives with service in the Kansas Air National Guard. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on September 3, 2021, promoted to First Lieutenant in the fall of 2023, and promoted to Captain in 2025. He currently serves as a Flight Commander. His dual roles underscore his dedication to both state and military service.
Blake holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship from Wichita State University.
Raised in Halstead, Kansas, Blake’s formative years as an Eagle Scout and meeting his future wife, Tyleigha, in high school helped shape his community driven values. Blake and Tyleigha have been blessed with a growing family and have three children.
